The Wedding Proposal for Allie Gerlach and Kent Butler : "Oh that's nice"!
Submitted by Allie's sister, Shannon (a former client of mine pictured below- aren't they cute??).
Kent shared with Allie that he had a surprise date downtown one evening after Allie got home from school one day.
We first went to dinner at Fishbones so Allie could order crab legs, which she loves. Well, she ordered steak but anyhow it was great.
Then, we went to the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) where the European Chapel was "supposedly" closed off for construction. I asked an employee if we could go in and he said that it was fine. (It was planned in advance) Inside the Chapel on the alter was a stone template shaped like a Bible. On one side it said "When I first saw you I fell in love and you smile because you knew" - Shakespeare. The other side read "On December 14, 2007 Kent Butler and Allie Gerlach became engaged in the Chapel of the Detroit Institute of Arts." Allie saw the book and said "Oh, that's nice" and walked away. Not realizing that the other side was actually the proposal! So I ,Kent, asked Allie what the other side said. She read the other side and broke out in tears. Kent got on one knee and was a little unsure with her reaction, but obviously everything went fantastic as she said "YES!"
We then went from the DIA to the Gem Theater in Downtown Detroit for a play. Allie had been trying to call her family for over an hour not knowing that Kent had planned to surprise her with her family at the theater. She was so upset she could not get a hold of anyone but as soon as we walked in the door of the Gem she was overcome with joy!
